The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts has a broad and diverse base of supporters, and has been consistently ranked among the highest percentiles with the Texas Commission on the Arts and the San Angelo Cultural Affairs Council. It has received numerous awards, including the IMLS General Support Grant and the NEA Planning and Stabilization Grant. The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts has also received the National Museum Service Award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services in 2003. It has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and is a member of the Texas Historical Commission.

Two new exhibits open in September at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. Hand Stitch 2021: Works by Texas Artists opens September 24 during Family Fiestas Patrias. The exhibition will run through November 28. Majesty and Tenderness (2022) is a survey of ten Texas artists working with thread and needle. The textile arts movement has received increasing recognition internationally.
