The confluence of the North and South Forks of the rivers forms the San Angelo reservoir. The river flows for 24 miles through Concho and Tom Green counties and joins the Colorado River 12 miles northeast of Paint Rock. The river passes through semi-arid ranch land, small limestone outcrops, and mesquite, pecan, and yucca trees. There are few signs of human development on the river, and this makes it an ideal place for hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities.
