San Angelo

San Angelo, Texas, sits on the Concho River and is famous for the 1860s U.S. army post Fort Concho, which is a National Historic Landmark. However, summers can be hot and humid, with temperatures rising to the mid-80s during the day and dropping into the mid-sixties at night. You may need a sweater or light jacket in the summer as the heat index in San Angelo is higher than average.

The city’s first house of worship was an adobe structure erected by the Catholic Church. A stone building was built on the same site in 1883. The only Protestant minister in the region was James Walker from Kentucky. In the early 1900s, however, the city had a large number of Protestant churches. The city’s First Christian and Methodist churches were both founded in 1882, while the First Baptist Church was founded in 1883. By 1989, San Angelo had approximately 175 churches and one synagogue.

San Angelo is a small city situated in west-central Texas, about 200 miles northwest of San Antonio. The city has a mild climate and beautiful scenery. There are plenty of parks, lakes, and gorgeous homes.
